BREAST CANCER AWARENESS: EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES

Breast cancer ranks as the second most common cancer among women, with about 1 in 8 women in the U.S. facing it at some point. The encouraging news? Most women can beat breast cancer when it’s caught early. A mammogram—the key screening tool—can detect it at a treatable stage.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, celebrated in October 2025, is the perfect time to boost awareness about early detection. Let’s make an impact! Share the importance of mammograms and rally communities, organizations, families, and individuals to join the cause.

How can this month spark change? It’s a chance to educate women on proactive steps for early detection.

Here are a few ideas:

* Invite doctors and nurses to discuss screening with women.

* Encourage women aged 40–49 to consult their doctors about starting mammograms.

* Host an event for women aged 50–74 to promote biennial mammograms in your community.

TIPS TO GET YOUR FAMILY ORGANIZED IN 2025

Staying organized can feel daunting, but setting morning, afternoon, and nighttime routines can bring harmony to your household. Here are some practical tips to streamline family life and ease your load this year:

Morning Routines:

1. Rise Before the Rest
Beat the rush by waking early—shower, dress, and plan your day. Sneak in a quick workout for a calm start.

2. Rouse the Kids
Gently wake your children to kick off the day.

3. Tidy Up
Have kids neaten their rooms, pull up comforters, and toss dirty clothes in the hamper.

4. Prep Bathroom Basics
Assign each child a basket with their toiletries. Set out grab-and-go breakfasts like fruit, yogurt, cereal, or toaster waffles.

5. Check the List
Ensure backpacks, lunches, and gym clothes are ready for work and school.

Afternoon Routine:

1. Ready Snacks
Welcome kids home with string cheese, fruit, or peanut butter for a quick energy boost.

2. Homework Time
Set a daily homework hour in a quiet spot, free from TV or tech distractions—finish before screen time.

3. Team Dinner
Involve everyone in cooking to share the day’s highlights and simplify the meal.

Nighttime Routines:

1. Pack Lunches
Prep fruit and veggies in zip-lock bags for easy morning assembly.

2. Organize Backpacks
Place them in a designated spot for a stress-free morning.

3. Pick Outfits
Lay out clothes for the next day to save time.

4. Tech Timeout
Power down phones, tablets, and computers an hour before bed, keeping them out of kids’ rooms.

5. Bath Time

Enjoy a shower or bath to unwind.
6. Bedtime Ritual

Set out PJs and toothbrushes, read a story, then lights out for a peaceful night.

ARE YOU A PEOPLE PLEASER?

Take a moment to reflect:

* Do you dodge arguments to keep the peace?

* Do you say “yes” to every request, even when it’s not your thing?

* How often do you pick the movie you want to see?

* Ever catch yourself in the mirror wondering, “Why can’t I say no?”

Pleasing others might feel noble, and it often fosters harmony. But when you constantly sacrifice your own desires—or worse, tolerate what you dislike—you’re giving up too much of yourself. Paulo Coelho wisely noted, “When you say ‘yes’ to others, make sure you aren’t saying ‘no’ to yourself.” And Eleanor Roosevelt added, “You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.”

Over time, always saying yes can backfire. Pretending to love skydiving despite a fear of heights (an extreme example) sets everyone up for a fall. Even small, frequent compromises can erode your authenticity, leaving you resentful—and others confused by your hidden frustration.

The fix? Accept that some won’t be pleased, no matter your efforts. True friends want the real you. Practice saying “no” kindly—it’s about choice, not hurt feelings. Start by knowing what you want. Say “yes” only if it aligns with your goals; otherwise, say “no.” You can always reconsider later—it’s your call, not theirs.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Cream Pumpkin Roll

Ingredients Cake:

3/4-cup cake flour

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger

1/2-teaspoon salt

6 large eggs, separated

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/3-cup (packed) light brown sugar

2/3 cup canned pure pumpkin puree

Ingredients for Filling:

1 1/2 (8 oz.) packages cream cheese, at room temperature

3/4-cup confectioners' sugar, plus more for dusting

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature

1-tablespoon maple syrup

1-teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 15-by-10-inch jelly-roll pan. Line pan with parchment paper and grease paper.

Cake:  Whisk together flour, cinnamon, ginger and 1/4 tsp. salt.

With electric mixer on high, beat egg yolks, granulated sugar and brown sugar until thick and pale, about 3 minutes. On low, mix in pumpkin and then dry ingredients.

With a clean bowl and beaters, beat egg whites and remaining 1/4 tsp. salt until stiff but not dry. Fold into batter separately. Scrape into pan; spread evenly. Bake until springy to touch, about 15 minutes. Dust a clean kitchen towel with confectioners' sugar. Loosen cake from pan; turn out onto towel and peel off parchment. Roll cake lengthwise in towel; turn seam to bottom and let cake cool.

Filling:  Beat all 5 ingredients on high until smooth, about 3 minutes. Unroll cake, spread filling evenly and reroll. Trim ends diagonally and dust with confectioners' sugar.

QUICK HAIR FIXES FOR BUSY DAYS

When time’s tight, a complicated hairstyle is the last thing you need. These easy styling tricks will simplify your routine and keep you looking great on the go…

Speed Up Drying
Blot wet hair with a towel and apply a multitasking product to detangle and smooth. Rough-dry with a blow dryer to 90% dry, then brush and style to finish.

Boost Volume
Mist a dry hairbrush with water and brush, focusing on the crown and face-framing areas to revive lift and fullness.

Try a Messy Bun
Gather hair at the nape, secure with an elastic, loop the tail into a bun, and pull a few strands out for a casual, lifted look—no perfection required.

Flip Your Part
Switch your part to the opposite side for an instant bounce and refreshed style.

Braid Bed Head
If you wake up late with messy hair, a braid works wonders—your hair’s natural oils help it hold.

Tame Frizz

Air-dry when possible, applying products to damp hair. For mornings without washing, lightly brush with hairspray to smooth flyaways.

Lift Flat Hair
Wash with a lightweight shampoo and light conditioner, towel-dry, then apply volumizing foam from roots to tips. Dry on high heat, low speed, plumping with fingers, or use a sprinkle-on volumizer for a natural boost.

Style with a Scarf
Wrap a scarf like a headband for a chic, instant style upgrade.

Consult Your Stylist
Ask your hair professional for product recommendations to streamline your daily look.

SAFE TRICK-OR-TREATING FOR HALLOWEEN 2025

Parents and grandparents, as you prep your little ghouls and goblins for Halloween this year, keep these safety tips in mind:

1. Choose Flame-Resistant Costumes:
Opt for flame-resistant outfits. Swap masks for face paint to keep vision clear and safe.

2. Plan the Route:
Map out a Trick-or-Treat path, ensuring adults know where kids are headed. A parent or responsible adult must accompany young children, staying in close contact.

3. Stay Visible:
Add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags. Equip each Trick-or-Treater with a flashlight to see and be seen in the dark.

4. Stick to Lit Homes:
Only visit houses with porch lights on. Accept treats at the door—never step inside.

5. Walk Safely:
Stick to sidewalks; if none, walk on the road’s edge facing traffic. Cross only at corners, looking both ways. Avoid yards, alleys, parked cars, and running.

6. Check Treats:
An adult must inspect all candy before eating. Discard loose items, open packages, choking hazards, or unfamiliar brands.
