STAY COOL AND CALM: SUMMER WELLNESS TIPS FOR A RADIANT YOU

July’s heat and festive energy make it the perfect time to prioritize your well-being while soaking up the summer fun. Here are five easy ways to stay refreshed, relaxed, and radiant all month long:

Hydrate Like a Pro

With July’s scorching days, dehydration can zap your energy and dull your glow. Aim for 8–10 glasses of water daily, and jazz it up with cucumber slices or a splash of lemon for a spa-like treat. Pro tip: Keep a chic reusable water bottle handy to sip in style.

Soothe Sun-Kissed Skin
Post-beach or BBQ, pamper your skin with aloe vera gel or a cooling moisturizer to calm any redness. For an extra treat, book a hydrating facial at the salon to restore your summer radiance.

Lighten Up Your Routine
Swap heavy makeup and hair products for lightweight, breathable options. Think tinted SPF moisturizers and loose beach waves to keep your look effortless and heat-friendly.

Take a Mindful Moment
July’s festivities can be a whirlwind, so carve out time for calm. Try a five-minute morning meditation or a quick stretch session to center yourself. Bonus: Our spa’s relaxation massages are perfect for melting away summer stress.

Move Outdoors
Embrace the sunshine with a walk, yoga in the park, or a dance party under the stars. Staying active boosts your mood and keeps you glowing—perfect for showing off that fresh salon style.

This July, make self-care your summer anthem. Stay cool, feel amazing, and let your inner sparkle shine brighter than the Fourth of July fireworks!

HAIR MYTHS BUSTED: TRUTHS TO KEEP YOUR LOCKS LOVELY

Hair myths are everywhere, but knowing the facts can help you care for your strands like a pro. Here’s the lowdown on common misconceptions and how to use the truth to your advantage:

Myth: Frequent trims make hair grow faster.

Truth: Cutting your hair does not speed up growth—that happens at the scalp. But regular trims (every 6–8 weeks) keep ends tidy, preventing frayed, thin-looking strands and breakage. The result? Hair that looks fuller and healthier.

Myth: Shampooing causes hair loss.

Truth: Hair that falls out in the shower was already on its way out—you just notice it more when wet. Skipping washes to “save” hair can backfire, as oil buildup may inflame your scalp and slow growth. Tackle the real culprit, like stress, and keep washing regularly.

Myth: Brushing a ton makes hair healthier.

Truth:
Forget the old “100 strokes a day” advice. Overbrushing can rough up your hair’s cuticles, causing damage. Brush gently and only as needed to detangle and distribute natural oils—less is more.

Myth: Color-treated hair is always damaged.

Truth:
Bleaching can weaken and thin strands, but adding color can actually plump them up, making hair appear thicker. Choose quality treatments and follow with proper care to keep colored locks vibrant and strong.

Myth: Dandruff means your scalp is dry.

Truth:
Those flakes aren’t from dryness—they’re tied to an oily scalp. Dandruff comes from yeast overgrowth in oily conditions, triggering irritation. Combat it with an anti-dandruff shampoo to keep your scalp balanced.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

PECAN BARS

 INGREDIENTS:

Crust...
1 2/3 cups flour

3/4 cup butter, softened

1/3 cup sugar

1/3 cup coarsely chopped pecans

Filling...

1 ½ cups dark corn syrup

2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

4 large eggs

6 tablespoons flour

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups coarsely chopped pecans

DIRECTIONS:

1. Heat oven to 350°F.

2. Combine 1 3/4 cups flour, butter and sugar in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in 1/3 cup pecans.

3. Press crust mixture evenly onto bottom of ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake 18-22 minutes or until edges are very light golden brown.

4. Combine all filling ingredients except 1 1/2 cups pecans in bowl; mix well. Stir in pecans. Spread evenly over hot, partially baked crust. Bake 30-35 minutes or until filling is set and knife inserted 1-inch from edge comes out clean. Cool completely; refrigerate. Cut into bars.

THINGS THAT SPEED UP AGING - AND HOW TO SLOW IT DOWN

Wondering if you are aging faster than you should? Your daily habits might be the culprit. Certain choices can add years to your appearance, but the good news is you can make changes to keep your glow youthful. Here is a rundown of habits that age you prematurely and how to counter them:

1. Eating Inflammatory Foods. Processed junk like sugary snacks, white bread, margarine, and vegetable oils can trigger inflammation, speeding up wrinkles and dulling your skin. Swap them for anti-aging powerhouses rich in omega-3s and alpha-linolenic acid, like salmon, avocados, olive oil, and flaxseed oil, to keep your complexion vibrant.

2. Drinking Alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates you, sapping moisture from your skin and inviting premature wrinkles. Cut back on drinks and stay hydrated with water to maintain a plump, youthful glow.

3. Chronic Stress. Stress is a major ager, shortening telomeres (the protective caps on your DNA), which damages cells and fast-tracks aging. Find stress-busters like meditation, yoga, or a quick walk to keep your body and mind younger.

4. Skimping on Sleep. Missing out on 7–8 hours of nightly sleep doesn’t just leave you groggy—it hampers your body’s repair process, dulling your skin and energy. Prioritize rest for a refreshed, youthful vibe.

5. Too Much Sun Exposure. Overdoing it in the sun weakens skin cells and blood vessels, leading to a leathery look. Protect yourself with SPF 30+ sunscreen, hats, and shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

6. Smoking. Beyond its health risks, smoking wreaks havoc on your skin by breaking down elasticity, causing sagging and wrinkles. Quitting can help your skin bounce back and slow visible aging.

7. Sedentary Lifestyle.  Sitting too much raises risks for heart disease, cancer, and obesity—all of which can age you inside and out. Stay active with regular exercise, like walking or strength training, to keep your body strong and youthful.

FIREWORK SAFETY TIPS FOR A SPARKLING JULY 4TH

Every year, fireworks lead to thousands of injuries, but with some simple precautions, you can keep the celebration safe and fun. Here are key tips to ensure a worry-free Independence Day:

* Follow Local Laws

Always check and comply with your area’s rules for buying and using fireworks to stay legal and safe.

* Skip Sparklers for Kids Sparklers can reach 1,200°F—hot enough to cause serious burns. Hand kids glow sticks instead for a safer glow.

* Supervise Closely
A responsible adult must oversee all firework activities.  Always keep a close eye on children near fireworks at all times.

* Use Fireworks Outdoors Light fireworks outside only, with a bucket of water or a hose nearby for emergencies.

* Do Not Re-light Duds Never try to re-ignite a firework that does not go off—let it be to avoid unexpected explosions.

* Opt for Pro Displays The safest bet? Skip home fireworks and enjoy a professional public display for all the dazzle without the risk.  Stay extra cautious this July 4, 2025, and make your celebration shine safely!
